About Hemorrhoid Treatment

There are several ways to treat hemorrhoids, ranging from over-the-counter creams to hemorrhoidectomy surgeries. While over-the-counter treatments (such as Preparation H) only temporarily relieve some of the symptoms of hemorrhoids – and surgeries are generally only suggested for the most severe cases – the CRH O’Regan System® is a simple, safe, fast, and effective option for the majority of hemorrhoid sufferers.

The CRH O’Regan system is a hemorrhoid banding – or rubber band ligation procedure – which is a fast, effective, safe and nonsurgical approach to hemorrhoid treatment. Unlike a hemorrhoidectomy, it doesn’t require fasting or sedation. There is also no downtime involved, and this outpatient procedure is significantly less costly than surgery and covered by most insurance plans. Unlike home remedies designed to provide temporary relief, banding completely treats hemorrhoid symptoms in a matter of moments – with a procedure that’s 99% effective.

Why Choose the CRH O’Regan System for Hemorrhoid Treatment?

By far the most effective method for treating hemorrhoids is a process called “rubber band ligation” or “banding” using the CRH O’Regan System. It is appropriate for over 95% of hemorrhoid patients. The procedure itself takes less than a minute, and there is virtually no post-procedure pain or recovery time. This non-surgical procedure has been performed over 800,000 times on patients across the country.

Other Hemorrhoid Treatment Options

Creams or Home Remedies

Hemorrhoid creams are an option for providing temporary relief during a flare-up. However, they only temporarily alleviate discomfort like burning, itching and inflammation without getting to the root of the problem – often resulting in symptom recurrence.

Surgical Procedures

A hemorrhoidectomy is a surgical procedure to remove hemorrhoids. Typically, a hemorrhoidectomy is only needed for the most severe cases. Surgeries can take up to 90 minutes and require up to two weeks recovery time. Types of surgical treatments include:

  • Conventional surgical hemorrhoidectomy
  • Stapled hemorrhoidectomy (PPH)
  • Doppler-guided Ligation of Hemorrhoidal Arteries (THD)

With any type of surgery there are serious risk factors involved.

Infrared Coagulation (IRC)

IRC is a procedure that uses hot infrared light to treat small or mid-sized hemorrhoids. As the treatment tends to be more superficial, oftentimes multiple procedures are required and the wait period between treatments is typically 90 days. The procedure is completed in minutes and requires up to a day for recovery.

Ultroid Non-Surgical

This is a procedure where a probe is introduced into the anus through an anoscope which uses DC electrical current (“direct current”) to cause the hemorrhoid to scar and shrink.

Sclerotherapy Injection

Sclerotherapy involves injecting a chemical through an anoscope into the hemorrhoid tissue, causing it to scar and shrink. Sclerotherapy is rarely practiced today because it has a high potential for complications, especially as compared to more safe and effective procedures, like rubber band ligation.

Hemorrhoid Banding

The CRH O’Regan System is an innovative hemorrhoid banding system that uses gentle manual suction to apply a rubber band to the base of the hemorrhoid to restrict blood flow – causing the hemorrhoid to shrink, dry up and fall off. It is a quick, effective and pain-free option for treating internal hemorrhoids. It is a one-minute procedure with no recovery time required. Conventional rubber banding uses clamps/metal-toothed forceps and can be a 10-minute procedure with up to 3 days recovery time.
